An American crocodile shows me its remarkable set of teeth as it passes by on patrol in a mangrove channel in Gardens of the Queen National Park Cuba. This National Park is a time capsule where the reefs teem with life and top predator populations like sharks and crocodiles are intact unlike other ecosystems throughout the Caribbean. These magnificent creatures feed on fish and the occasional unlucky houtia, a small rodent that lives in the mangrove branches just above the water. // Photographed for @natgeo Cuba's Underwater Jewels with @natgeocreative@thephotosociety //. #ocean#cuba#conservation#crocodile#predator#teeth#adventure for #moreocean follow @daviddoubilet
Sharks and sky. A grey reef shark rises to the surface to investigate our arrival at a seamount in Kimbe Bay, Papua New Guinea. The sharks in Kimbe Bay are robust and healthy due to protective oversight while sharks populations throughout the world are in severe decline due to their harvest for shark fin soup. Encountering sharks on reefs throughout the world has sadly become a rare event, sharks have become ghosts in the sea. The good news: they are successful models of sharks conservation in the world that are working to protect these magnificent creatures. //
